Our Story
It all started with a small set of antlers.
After growing up in Newfoundland, creating play houses out of cardboard boxes and leftover scraps of building materials he found in the basement of his family home, Andrew left to attend college in Ontario. His father found a set of antlers in the woods and, with humour at the root, sent them to him in a Christmas parcel with a note that said any true Newfoundlander would have a rack somewhere in their life. Now, in Newfoundland, antlers are hung in garages or sheds, just a humble symbol of the province’s wilderness, not something worthy enough to be hung in a home. But Andrew saw beauty in them and an obsession was born. He was inspired to anchor his aesthetic to the natural world.
As he ventured further from home, living in Europe and exploring more of Canada, his influences expanded to include history, architecture and art. The more he learned about different periods and design styles, the more he experimented with layering finishes and combining materials to create bespoke interiors for his clients. Unexpected combinations of scale, pattern and texture create beautiful tension in all of his environments.
And even as his signature style has evolved over the years, it’s always come back to the antlers, either literally or in the use of natural materials, such as stone, leather, wool, silk and wood. Sometimes the antlers morph from natural specimens into modern interpretations made of metal, resin and glass. Because Andrew believes that the humble symbol is a timeless design element that has existed for centuries and shows no sign of waning, which is what he aspires to provide in his designs – interiors that stand the test of time.
The love of design and interiors that was sparked as a child continues as he experiments with new ideas and creative applications of materials to create beautiful escapes. And the antlers his father sent him? They not only inspired the logo for Andrew Pike Interiors, but they still hang over his front door today, more than two decades later.
